Rag wreath Evening!
Sewing Belle and the Stapleford WI recently held a Rag wreath making session, bringing together ladies of all ages for a fun and festive filled evening!
Rag wreaths are a simple and inexpensive way of using up any fabric scraps, such as old quilts etc to make a unique handmade item for your home.
On this occasion, the material used was provided by local company Sewing Belle and the members of the WI. The scraps were cut into strips, 16-18m x 3cm and tied into knots onto wire. You can see the results of the ladies creativeness on the pictures below! The WI are also going to be using the left over fabric to make dog beds for the pets of the homeless in Nottingham, so there is literally no waste!
I think this could be a fun project to do with my little boy, perhaps using up old items of clothing (we have lots that he has grown out of!) – it might even keep him sitting still for more than 5 minutes…
If this is something you would be interested in trying, Elaine from sewing Belle is going to be running another session on Thursday 7th December, this will be a drop in session, open from 5.30 till 8. The cost will be £5 per person and all materials, alongside refreshments, will be provided. Local shops in Stapleford will also be opening late on this occasion, so why not come along and make an evening of it?
We hope to see you there!
