Sew Liberated - Metamorphic Dress - confident beginner
SIZE: US sizing 0 to 24 (See image below for more details)

The Metamorphic Dress is a wardrobe-building dress for all seasons.

Featuring a high/low waist seam and complete reversibility, it's inspired by the possibility of layers - wear it with the tiered skirt and patch pockets, or flip it inside out and enjoy a basic, single-layer pinafore with in-seam pockets. Layer it over jeans, leggings, or a mid-length dresses, or layer it under your favorite woven tee or knitted cardigan. Wear it on the beach over your swimsuit or favorite short-sleeve, fitted knit tee.

The fit is easy, with no bodice darts and plenty of room for the waist. (It is drafted for a D-cup and below.)

Sew Different - Scoop Pinafore - confident beginner

The Scoop Pinafore is a casual, over the head tunic designed for you to wear over a top. Its statement square neckline contrasts with the scooped sides, which house large and comfy pockets.  The skirt has a sight bubble hem and sits just above the knee (for 5 ft 8 in height).  No zip needed

Nina Lee - Carnaby Dress - confident beginner

A simple shift dress with just enough features to keep things interesting, Carnaby is the perfect palette for playing with pattern and colour. With separate skirt and bodice pieces, you can easily create a striking colour block effect or keep it subtle with just a pop of contrast in the pockets. This is a super wearable dress inspired by the a-line shifts of the 1960s, brought up-to-date with contemporary touches.

Carnaby comes in two variations: with or without short sleeves

MERCHANT AND MILLS • The Whittaker Dress - experienced sewists

Size: Uk 6 to 18

A classic pinafore for work and play. With a buttoned side fastening, side and back pockets. Make it long with a back split or short just below the knee. Accentuate the detailing with contrast top stitching or keep it simple with matching thread.

Fabric requirement

2.5 metres approx (I would always purchase 3 metres)

We would suggest using the following fabrics – 8-12oz denim, cotton twill or canvas, corduroy, moleskin, half panama cotton. For a softer look and feel you could try a mid weight linen or tencel/linen blend.

For the facings we would recommend either a cotton muslin or a slip viscose lining.

The sample was made out of a 10oz denim. The following denims would give a very similar effect – Blue Shadow, River Valley, Alaska, Rider, French Eco.

Suitable fabrics can be purchase online from Merchant and Mills

SEW AN EASY PINAFORE OR DUNGAREE DRESS -  BEGINNERS

Tilly and the Buttons

Make it dungaree-style with buckles or as a pinafore with buttons, with mini- or knee-length hem, optional centre-front split, choice of patch pockets and contrast topstitching. Wear Cleo year-round, over a Breton top in the summer or with a roll neck and snuggly tights in winter. Flattering on different shapes, once you try it, you'll wonder how you lived without a dungaree dress!
