Merchant and MIlls TN34 Fishtail Parka Sewing Workshop
Sew Your Own Stylish and Versatile Outerwear
The TN34 Parka is a relaxed, modern take on the classic fishtail parka—designed to suit all seasons and all styles. This versatile piece can be made lined or unlined, with your choice of a drawstring hood or ribbed neckline, making it ideal for layering through spring, autumn, or winter.
With sizes ranging from XS to XXXL, this is a great project for confident sewists looking to challenge themselves with garment construction, finishing techniques, and customisation options.
In this workshop, you'll learn how to:
🧵 Construct a relaxed-fit outer garment from start to finish
🎯 Insert linings
🧷 Add functional design details like a hood, ribbed cuffs, and fishtail hem
🪡 Master topstitching, seam finishes, and hardware placement (e.g. snaps, zips, or toggles)

What to Bring:
-
Fabric, lining (optional), and notions (See image for fabric requirements in the gallery)
-
Fabric suggestions - Dry Oilskin, Oilskin (lined version only), tweed, woollens, cotton drill, cotton canvas, waterproofed cotton and linens.
For the lining we would recommend using Merchant and Mills barrier lining if you are making the oilskin version. Other lining options: brushed cotton, cotton poplin. The lining choice has to be substantial enough to accommodate buttonholes - this garment was designed for oilskin so the lining prevents oilskin touching the clothing.
For the ribbing neckline, 10cm piece we will have ribbing in stock included in the price of the workshop or you can bring your own
